LARGE DEFLECTION STATIC ANALYSIS OF TYPICAL TAIL-WHEEL STRUCTURE OF LIGHT AIRCRAFT BY FINITE ELEMENT METHOD

The non-linearity introduced due to large deflections in load-deflection characteristics is tackled in this note, by adopting the "Incremental Linearization" procedure. A finite element model of the tail-wheel structure is prepared and the load is applied in increments taking into account the changes in the geometry of the structure at the end of each loading step. The final deflections and geometry are obtained by a summation procedure.
