The Future of ITS Applications in Chile

This article gives an overview of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications in Chile. It describes the Transantiago Public Transportation Management System, which is comprised of two major subsystems: the Fleet Exploitation Assistance System (FEAS) and the User Information and Attention Service. The FEAS is maintained by the Transantiago Financial Manager (TFM) consortium which is responsible for implementing all onboard bus systems. The User Information and Attention Service serves as the distributor of information, making it available to public transit users and related entities. The article also includes a brief discussion of the Traffic Control Operation Unit (TCOU) which is responsible for traffic management in Santiago.
