CO2 emissions from freight transport in the UK - report prepared for the Climate Change Working Group of the Commission for Integrated Transport

This report looks at the freight sector's contribution to the greenhouse effect. Government statistics on CO2 emissions are examined, discrepanciesare highlighted and comparisons are made with each freight industry. A framework is presented to show how the relationship between freight tonnage and CO2 emissions depends on seven key ratios. The report examines these ratios and constructs scenarios to illustrate how emissions could be cut further. Trends are reviewed and further CO2 reduction opportunities are assessed. Public policy initiatives are reviewed and additional, more radicalmeasures are considered.
