A SIMPLE WAY OF RECORDING BOWL SHAPES USING A STANDARD BENKELMAN BEAM

The modifications made to a standard Benkelman beam to measure the bowl shape of a deflected pavement are described. They consist in mounting a transducer above a standard dial gauge and feeding the output to a paper chart recorder. This method for bowl shape measurement has compared favourably with another method, for a number of pavement types. The equipment now needs improvement for commerical manufacture. /TRRL/
