EFFECT OF SANDING TRAFFIC AND FRICTION STUDIES

EFFEKTER AV SANDNING TRAFIK- OCH FRIKTIONSSTUDIER

A study was made of the effect of sanding on road surface friction, the durability of this effect and speed adaptation by traffic. An attempt was also made to obtain an approximate idea of the changes in road users safety margins. The study included 6 test stretches sanded in the normal way and one stretch where water sanding was tested (the road surface being sanded and then sprayed with water). The measurements were performed on road stretches which are normally sanded e.g. road stretches with traffic flow below 1,500 vehicles every 24 hours. Changes in the test sections after sanding are listed, and the conclusions drawn are presented. The costs and profits from the process are also discussed.
