Software Process Management Techniques to Improve Systems Operation

One of the most common difficulties in developing, deploying, and maintaining complex software systems is establishing an accurate and thorough picture of the status and health of the individual processes and the overall communications network that links the pieces together. The typical Traffic Management Center (TMC) is not staffed with software specialists so it would be extremely beneficial to have a system that can monitor itself and to correct itself when anomalous conditions arise. Having a robust system that can heal itself would provide confidence in the operational stability of the system and reduce the need for access to software specialists for daily operation of the system. This paper discusses techniques that have been developed to provide for "self-healing" software systems. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
