COMPUTER PROGRAMS FOR CONTINUOUS BEAMS - CP110

This report contains a comprehensive evaluation of seven computer programs for the analysis and design of continuous reinforced concrete beams according to CP110. The programs were tested on identical problems; the tests were carried out by the same team on all programs, and every effort was made to give every program the same information. Non -interactive programs tested were BEAM 110 from Atkins Computing written by R J Crocker & Ptnrs; CP110-BEAM S/1 from Genesys Ltd; ABDUL from DOE PSA; Conbeam 4 & 5 from Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick & Ptnrs. Interactive programs evalauted were GLADYS from Ove Arup & Ptnrs; DP 102 from Ove Arup & Ptnrs; DECIDE 30 from Taylor & Beeby. Conclusions to the report comment on each program evaluated; the programs as a whole; the application of computers in the design of continuous beams; and apart from the evaluation results the conclusions are also based on subjective opinions of the project team, engineers and program users whose opinions were sought. The report is intended to assist a designer in making a choice of program that will meet his design requirements /TRRL/
