Impact of Aspect Ratio on Two-Column Bent Seismic Performance
This study describes research investigating new design details for two-column, box-superstructure, hinged-base bridge bents. The objective of the study was to test two-column bridge bents dynamically by subjecting them to actual time earthquakes. Three models were subjected to shake table tests, and all deformations, rebar strains and mass accelerations were recorded during shaking. This report describes the behavior of the three model specimens, focusing on their flexural and shear behaviors. Data from the specimens will be used in understanding joint, column and base hinge behavior as well as in developing analytical models and proposing design recommendations.
