The experimental and analytical investigation of A 1:60 scale asbestos cement bifurcated model voided bridge deck for the distribution of plate bending under ha, hb, knife-edge and point loading was carried out. Good agreement was found between the experimental and analytical results. The experimental results can be used in assessing the performance of structural analysis computer programs. A finite strip program fiscib was developed to facilitate the analysis of simply supported curved bridge decks with intermediate column supports. The accuracy and efficiency of this program were checked. Experimental and analytical studies of fifteen 1:60 scale asbestos cement curved slab decks and fifteen 1:60 scale asbestos cement curved voided slab decks are reported. Investigations were also carried out on a full-scale orthotropic steel bridge deck with trapezoidal stiffeners. On the basis of these studies the finite strip computer program fisbob was adopted. The convergence of the finite strip method has been studied. It was found that the aspect ratio of span to width of strip must be not greater than 300. Right, skew and curved bridge decks with edge-stiffening beams are reviewed and studied. The three computer programs developed by the author for this work are included in appendices. /TRRL/
