AN IN TRAFFIC INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR CYCLISTS

ETT INFORMATIONSSYTEM I TRAFIKEN FOER CYKLISTER

In a first stage one bicycle-track in Landskrona was studied. In this second stage, the aim has been to enlarge these studies to a complete system of tracks - i.e. to investigate whether route-choice and risk/behaviour information in a complete system can influence cyclists to an increased utilization of the tracks and safer behaviour. Three types of information were studied: direction signs, direction choice information and risk/behaviour recommendations. Traffic counts and attitude surveys were made in order to study the use of cycle tracks and route choice. The risk/behaviour information was studied in a separate behaviour study. The results showed small differences in the use of cycle tracks, whereas route choice differed according to age and sex. The attitudes of the cyclists towards the tracks and the information systems were positive. No effect of the risk/behaviour could be established. /TRRL/
