TRANSPORTATION ENERGY CONSERVATION IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

As part of a continuing effort to evaluate what the Federal Government is doing to manage its use of energy, the Department of Energy's (DOE's) efforts under the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) are reviewed. It is recommended that DOE, through the FEMP, take a more active leadership role in the transportation area by (1) issuing guidance to agencies, (2) investigating and promoting known transportation energy conservation opportunities, and (3) developing a better means of monitoring and evaluating agency energy conservation activities.
