TESTS OF STRUCTURAL WALLS UNDER REVERSING LOADS

Tests of 14 isolated structural walls subjected to reversing in-plane horizontal loads were made to evaluate hysteretic response, strength and deformation capacity of structural walls used for lateral bracing in earthquake-resistant buildings. Controlled variables included shape of the wall cross section, amount of flexural and shear reinforcement, confinement reinforcement in the boundary elements, axial load, and concrete strength. In addition, one wall was repaired and retreated. Discussions are presented of the observed response of the specimens, the observed and calculated strengths, and the observed deformation capacities.
