Tourism without traffic: A good practice guide
This publication is the result of a two-year project by Transport 2000 to develop strategic approaches to promoting alternatives to the car for leisure travel. A pilot scheme was set up in East Sussex with the aim of reducing leisure travel by car in part of the South Downs. A visitor travel plan was also set up for Harewood House near Leeds. These projects and many others are described in this guide which sets out to show how it can be made easier and more attractive for people to reduce their reliance on the car for both day trips and longer holidays. This guide aims to increase accessibility for those without ready access to a car to reach and enjoy tourism areas.
