Alcolock
In the Netherlands about an estimated quarter of all road deaths are caused by the use of alcohol. Traditional measures to reduce the danger due to alcohol have increasingly less effect. A new measure would be the introduction of a compulsory alcolock for those found guilty of drink-driving. This fact sheet discusses the advantages and disadvantages and presents the results of evaluation studies in other countries. The costs and benefits are also considered. SWOV concludes that the alcolock is an effective new weapon in the battle against drink-driving in Dutch traffic.
