The main alterations incorporated in this edition are those made by the road traffic (drivers' ages and hours of work) act 1976, the motor cycle crash helmets (religious exemption) act 1976 and the criminal law act 1977. Numerous alterations have also been made as a result of new regulations, chief amongst these being new regulations relating to driving licenses, test certificates, traffic signs together with numerous construction and use (amendment) regulations. The data are presented under the following headings: definitions; procedure and evidence; notices of intended prosecution; drink/driving offences; other road traffic offences; penalties, endorsement and disqualification; special reasons and mitigating circumstances; appeals. Three appendices deal with: regulations and orders; endorsement and sentence codes; suggestions for assessing penalties for main motoring offences. The law is generally stated as at 1 September 1977. /TRRL/
