Off the Front Page... and Into the Future
This article describes Amtrak’s recent past and its focus on the future. Although funding hasn’t increased, Amtrak is developing plans to grow ridership and revenue, and working with freight-rail to improve congestion-related performance problems. The article provides some recent history of Amtrak’s financial problems and the departure of former Amtrak president David Gunn. In Fiscal Year 2006, ridership hit an all-time high as did ticket revenue. For the present, the rail line is focusing on productivity, product quality and good management.
