FINAL REPORT: THE RESPONSE OF VEHICLES TO ROAD SURFACE ROUGHNESS

This report describes the development of mathematical models for determining the dynamic characteristics of various types of vehicles. In addition a general model was produced to deal with any vehicle whose wheels follow two parallel tracks. A description is given of experimental measurements including noise measurements of vehicle responses to road undulations both in the laboratory and on the road. Reference is made to the need for two-profile descriptions of typical roads, and the work carried out by mira in the development of a new profilometer for this purpose. Using the hypothesis of isotropy, a mathematical model was also produced to be used with descriptions of most road surfaces.
