FROST RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE WITH POROUS AGGREGATE

The report covers the influence of all types of aggregates - lightweight or normal weight - on the frost resistance of concrete. The main interest is, however, concentrated towards true lightweight aggregates - natural or artificial: that is, aggregates characterized by a high porosity the pores being very coarse in comparison with pores in the cement paste. The report contains the following chapters: (1) concrete as a composite material, (2) frost resistance of a concrete with non-porous aggregate, (3) frost resistance of concrete with porous aggregate - principally, (4) no interaction between aggregate and matrix is considered - the maximum condition for frost resistance, (5) interaction between cement paste and aggregate, (6) concrete with porous aggregate treated as a homogeneous material, (7) practical methods for investigating the potential frost resistance of concrete aggregates and (8) practical experience of frost resistance of lightweight aggregate concrete. /TRRL/
