An approach to the calculation of the settlement of pile group based on elastic theory, is summarized and parametic solutions are presented for two-pile interaction and for the settlement ratio of pile groups. The determination of the required soil parameters is discussed and an illustrative example is given to show the application of the solutions to practical problems. The construction of charts to aid in the design of pile groups is then described and finally, mention is made of some cases in which calculated and observed group settlements have been compared. /Author/TRRL/
