Strail Bridges the Gap

The German company Strail has developed the veloStrail system to fill in a level crossing's flange gap between the rail and crossing's rubber surface. The innovation was created since if there is even a slight deviation in a 90° rail crossing, a wheel from a bicycle, baby carriage, or wheelchair can get caught in the rail. A flexible rubber strip was inserted between rail and crossing to prevent rail wheel flanges from derailing after riding up over the rail top. The article examines how the rubber strip is locked into place, as well as system application and benefits. The system is being tested in Austria, and approval for use is expected soon, both in Austria and in Germany.
