Javelin on Target for CTRL
The article discusses a fleet of 225 km/h multi-system emus being built by Hitachi for operation on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL), which serves London and southern Britain. Full fleet service for the "A-trains" known as "Javelins" is scheduled for 2009, although the first emus should arrive in 2007. In addition to significantly reducing journey time into London, the Javelin service on the CTRL will be integral to spectator transportation to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Configuration of the Javelins will be 361 seats in six-car units, with one standard and one disabled toilet and space for two wheelchairs. Design and maintenance are both discussed.
