First Gauge-Changeable Electric Loco Under Test
Spanish company Talgo's innovative new Trav-Ca electric locomotive, which is about to begin the certification process, is claimed to be the world's first high-speed electric locomotive that it gauge-changeable. Trav-Ca should fill a need in train networks serving areas with differing power supply systems and track gauges. Another feature is its low weight. A box discusses Talgo's success in winning locomotive-hauled tilting passenger train and high-speed trainset contracts both in Spain and abroad.
