Take Advantage of SAFETY Act

This article describes provisions in the SAFETY (Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technology) Act of 2002 to prevent sellers of anti-terror technology for transit systems from being sued by victims in the event of a terrorist attack. Liability protection is provided by the Homeland Security Department under the act. The author notes that operators can also apply for SAFETY Act protections for security services they provide, such as security guards or evacuation training. Finally, the author states that any organization considering constructing a new transit system should integrate SAFETY Act protections into its plan.
