PIARC and History

L'AIPCR et l'Histoire

There is interest among many engineers in their profession's history. Often at the end of their careers, a few try writing history, and some also develop an enjoyment of technical innovations history in general. Often motivated by the conviction that much more attention than society in general gives is deserved by the fruits of their labor, they also often wish to improve society's methods of tracking the past, especially of engineering. The author examines the scholarly discipline of the history of engineering, which has been in existence for approximately a century, as well as the new role of engineering historian and an international association for the history of transportation, traffic, and mobility (T2M). T2M is an affiliate of the "Journal of Transport History," already in existence.
