Safety Assessment of Goods Vehicle Traffic

Evaluation de la securite de la circulation des vehicules de transport de fret

In order to find condition trends in goods vehicle traffic accident involvement, data were requested and collected from various countries. Identification of certain accident occurrence trends and preventative measure recommendations with international applications were objectives in comparing accident data across countries. The authors discuss a study intended for data analysis and comparison on goods vehicle accidents with respect to vehicle size from a number of countries, and to look at the most common accident occurrences with respect to on-street parking, congestion, road width, road type, and area, and finally, for accident comparison across transportation modes. The authors recommend that a universal database for international sharing be built, that goods vehicle transport management organizations be established, and that goods vehicle transport management measures be implemented. Statistical study limitations, goods vehicle traffic accident characteristics, decisive factors influencing safety, safety improvement and expected result measures, and estimated measure effect examples are all discussed. Examples drawn from Japan are given.
