Scenario Planning for Fleet Managers

This article examines the concept of strategic planning and how it can be applied to fleet management. The basics of scenario planning are discussed, including reasons for its use, when and how it should be used, and the individuals involved. The article then offers an outline of the typical process involved in strategic planning. This includes: 1) defining the problem scope; 2) identifying primary stakeholders; 3) identifying known elements affecting the problem; 4) identifying driving forces or trends; 5) developing and ranking a critical uncertainty list; and, 6) constructing plausible matrix-based scenarios leading to effective decision making at a strategic level.
