Cooperative Throttle and Brake Fuzzy Control for ACC+Stop&Go Maneuvers
This paper presents a method for automatic cruise control (ACC) systems with improved Stop&Go capabilities, used for driving situations under 30 mph, based on fuzzy logic for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications. Input for the system is provided by a Global Positioning System (GPS) and then distributed over the road network via a wireless local area network (LAN) link. Authors use a fuzzy logic based system for two main stated reasons: 1) it does not require an exact mathematical model that would be difficult to construct for dynamic nonlinear systems such as cars, and, 2) it better emulates the reactions of a human drivers as opposed to direct mathematical representations. Upon experimentation, the authors have found that their system performs well under low-speed situations such as traffic jams.
