Long-term pavement performance

New Zealand embarked on a Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) programme with the establishment of 63 LTPP sites on the State Highway network during 2000. Six survey rounds have been completed on all these LTPP sections. This programme was extended during 2003 with the inclusion of some 82 LTPP sections in rural and urban local authority roads. Four Land Transport Research projects have been completed based on the LTPP data. The research studies included two studies on pavement strength testing and two on Pavement Deterioration Modelling (PDM). This paper summarises the highlights and progress made with the LTPP programmes It emphasises the importance of the programmes and demonstrate the research opportunities still available on the data.
