Experiences with 3D laser scanning for crash investigation

Victoria Police have been using Riegl LMS Z210i, 3 dimensional laser scanners to measure some of the major collision and homicide scenes they have been called to since 2003. A significant database of these scenes now exists. Methods utilised at the scene during the scanning process are mentioned, data obtained from some of these scenes is explored and the export of data into computer aided drafting packages and crash simulation programs is discussed.
