The Marine Event Permit Process
The U.S. Coast Guard approves more than 3,000 marine permits every year for events ranging from simple fireworks displays to more significant events, such as the Three Rivers Regatta held in Pittsburgh, PA. The vast majority of these events take place without incident. This article discusses how the advance coordination among event sponsors, agency partners, and U.S. Coast Guard representatives is largely responsible for this low rate of incidents.
