Holding Down the Fort
Track fastener manufacturers are enjoying a surge in orders from both freight and transit rail operators. As fuel prices remain high, there is more push for transit in urban areas, resulting in new track being laid and old track being upgraded and repaired. Maintenance of way budgets are also rising for freight railroads. There is also increasing demand for concrete ties and captive fastening systems, which can cut operating costs by delivering tie clips, pads and insulators preassembled in the factory and delivered to the site. New insulator designs in response to Class I demand are also driving manufacturers to increase capacity and expand product lines. Various manufacturers and their products are discussed, including items in their product lines that fit into new trends.
