NHDP Projects: Addressing Safety Concerns
India’s infrastructure is crucial to its growth. This article describes the National Highway Development Project, which has undertaken to convert 14,279 kilometers of national highways into four -to six-lanes at a cost of $14.7 billion. With this type of investment, the National Highways Authority of India must address safety issues. The country has a high number of accidents, costing some two percent of the GDP. Safety measures are being undertaken at a cost of $2,260 to $3,390 per kilometer.
