Concrete Summit on Sustainable Development: Developing a Strategy for Sustainability

The authors discuss the Concrete Summit on Sustainable Development held in Washington, DC, in March 2007. The summit was the joint brainchild of the Portland Cement Association and the American Concrete Institute. It was developed with the hope of creating a proactive roadmap extending interest beyond the narrow focus of current "green" rating systems by the concrete industry, and meeting goals to support concrete industry vision, as well as developing both a vision and common approach to the role of concrete in sustainable development. More information on the summit and subsequent and upcoming events can be obtained online at Boxes highlight speakers and sponsoring organizations, as well as the ACI Foundation and the Strategic Development Council.
