Runway Friction Measurement Activities in the US

The author discusses the initiation, in the past year, of several new runway friction measurement activities, as well as the progress of measurement equipment, techniques, and recommended procedures' improvement. Coverage of the 14th Annual National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Tire/Runway Friction Workshop, held in May 2007 at Virginia's Wallops Flight Facility, is included, as well as runway friction equipment calibration center establishment efforts by the University of South Florida, NASA, and the Federal Aviation Administration, and activities conducted by the E17 Committee on Vehicle-Pavement Systems of the American Society of Testing and Materials.
