Khartoum Crossing
Tuti Island, located at the confluence of the White Nile and Blue Nile rivers and largely agricultural, is currently accessible from Khartoum, Sudan, only by ferry. With considerable development potential, the island will soon be connected to Khartoum by the Tuti Bridge, a suspension bridge currently under construction. Bridge saddle erection is expected this month. Challenges in bridge design and construction include using methods and materials suited to the Khartoum region in an economical design. The article describes the project, being built as a design and build contract.
