NOISE EMISSIONS FROM THE STANDPOINT OF THE PLANNER

SCHALLIMMISSIONEN AUS DER SICHT DES PLANERS

The problem of the great increase in road traffic noise in densely populated areas has also brought the subject of rail traffic into the discussion of noise levels. Sometimes arguments are resurrected which recall the early days of the railways, although with the development of the railways this mode of transport has become increasingly kind to the environment. One can in fact say that the railway is the transport mode which causes least damage to the environment. The author also deals with the problems of different levels of noise nuisance and touches on the present legal position. Methods of reducing noise nuisance are described, and the principle illustrated by calculating a mean average level for a simple example.
