Forth Field

The author discusses some of the current challenges being faced by Scotland's new Upper Forth Crossing, being constructed to relieve congestion on the Kincardine Bridge, which is about 30 km upstream from the Forth Road Bridge. A viaduct over the river is a key part of construction, and salt marshes which serve as nesting areas for migrating birds along the river's side are a key constraint. Bridge launching, ground conditions, and other issues are also discussed.
