WORKING PROBLEMS AND SUPPORTING IN CONNECTION WITH ROCK SPALLING; EXPERIENCE FROM THE STRYNEFJELL ROAD TUNNEL WORKS

BERGTRYKKSPROBLEMER OG SIKRINGSTILTAK; ERFARINGER FRA STRYNEFJELLSANLEGGET

The supporting work against rock spalling in the tunnels at Strynefjellsveien is described. Stability problems due to rock pressure in the ospeli- and grasdal-tunnels were moderate and caused minor disturbance during construction. In parts of the oppljos-tunnel the problems were extensive with heavy rock spalling of the roof. Rock pressure measurements showed high horizontal stresses. The results of the measurements are presented and discussed in the light of problems experienced. In the last part of the tunnel a well suited working scheme, based on rapid supporting with polyester-anchored rock bolts and large platens, proved to be favourable and reduced the tunnel costs. /TRRL/
