STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION'S RESURFACING, RESTORATION, AND RECONSTRUCTION PROGRAM MAKES PROGRESS

A comprehensive program to restore, improve and maintain riding standards is briefly outlined. Resurfacing and safety projects are underway on all types of highways including rural secondary, rural primary, urban secondary and primary and interstate highways. The work undertaken includes: grade preparation; drainage (pipe extensions, head wall construction, removal of old pipes, headwalls and culverts, inlet adjustment and construction, trimming, enlargement and stabilizing existing side ditches, underdrains, rebut curbs, and slipe protection); pavement (spot patching, hot mix asphalt widenings, wedge-leveling, etc.); shoulders (improving safety, and the construction of many miles of bikeways); placement or replacement of guardrails; and the removal and replacement of bridge decks.
