CUTTING ASPHALT WITH DIAMONDS

This article surveys the various types of cutting and opening operations which may have to be performed on asphalt road surfacings. Following an introduction on the properties and construction of asphalt carriageways, the author discusses the technical and economic advantages of diamond sawing as compared with the more traditional methods of road repair using pneumatic drills. The design of diamond blades for asphalt sawing is considered, and recommendations are made for optimum performance in practical applications.
