Ground Handling at Athens International Airport
At Athens International Airport, ground handling is seen as a triangular relationship involving the airport, ground handling providers, and the airlines. The goal is for the airport to work in partnership with related entities to ensure 'the reliable supply of quality services at an optimal price.' Part of how that is accomplished involves the airport introducing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to its partners. What the SLAs do for the ground handling partners as a performance check, a way to facilitate upgrading services, and as promotional tool that allows ground handling companies to capitalize on the quality of their performance. Another key component of the airport’s quality program is a ramp management function that monitors all ramp operations, promptly solving system problems as they occur. An incentive program for airlines, rewarding their contributions to traffic development at AIA, is also discussed.
