Latin America's Aviation Landscape
The activities of the Latin American Air Transport Association (ALTA) over the last three years are discussed in this article. The association facilitates the development, safety, and security among its air transport members throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The association is addressing the needs of its members for improved infrastructure as air traffic in the region continues to grow by double digits. The need is seen as particularly critical, due to new security measures and commercial considerations. The author discusses capital investment in airport infrastructure found in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru. Also discussed are trends in regional growth that have influenced both the top 20 regional airports and the fastest growing regional airports.
