THE WIRTGEN REPAVING MACHINE BELONGING TO THE JEAN LEFEBVRE FIRM OPERATING ON THE PARIS RING ROAD

LA MACHINE WIRTGEN REPAVING DE L'ENTREPRISE JEAN LEFEBVRE AU TRAVAIL SUR LE PERIPHERIQUE DE PARIS

Relatively compact, the Wirtgen Machine for flexible pavement carries out with a single installation levelling and resurfacing operations; these operations are: (1) heating of the existing wearing course by infra red methods without destroying the properties of the bituminous mixtures; (2) decompaction and transversal and longitudinal levelling of the upper part of the wearing course; (3) heating of the levelled support; (4) addition of small quantities (30 to 50 kg/m2) of new bituminous mixture; (5) precompaction of the repaired carpet. A conventional compaction plant behind the machine ensures the final laying and completes the renewed carpet. Details are given of the structure of the pavement on the ring road section studied and the repair work carried out at night (2, 3 and 4 November 1976) along zones where tracking reached a depth of 10 cm. Daily traffic flow per carriageway, and comparison with traffic in Paris and the overall traffic in France are mentioned. /TRRL/
