BART’S Central Contra Costa Country Crossover: A Project Overview
This paper is intended to provide a gross overview of the process and decisions made to implement two new mainline crossovers for BART in a densely populated affluent suburban city. Since projects such as these are so expensive and time consuming to implement, it is necessary to take the time up front to analyze several alternatives prior to proceeding. Cost and schedule are prime factors in selection, but risk to reliability of mainline operations during and after construction cannot be understated. It is important to be certain that the project performs a thorough analysis of environmental impacts and works with local agencies and residents to mitigate. Accommodate suggestions whenever feasible. Obtain as much baseline data for existing noise, vibration, lighting, traffic conditions as it will only help to aid in solving disputes after the project is completed should they arise.
