The Alstom’s Integrated Control and Security Center (ICSC) Platform – An Application Case in the Metro of Montreal

In recent years, the rail industry has increased its focus on security and passenger safety due to a rise in incidence of violent acts such as robbery, vandalism, and terrorism. In this new context, the onus is on rail operators to deploy a comprehensive security plan for their rail systems with cost effective solutions in order to insure passenger’s safety and maintain their competitiveness in the transport market. As the central location where the field information incoming from the various subsystems is integrated and presented to the Transport system Operator, the Control Center is a critical and key element of this plan. The concept of Integrated Control and Security Center (ICSC) answers the requirement for security management and provides its full integration with the day-to-day operation of the Transport system. This paper outlines the new challenges facing rail security and will show how an ICSC platform can be deployed to support the operator with its network operations and security management.
