All the State's Horses: California Builders Reach Major Milestone in Putting Together Bay Bridge East Span

This article is an update on construction of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, with the suspension bridge foundation having been completed and the 2,100-ton footing box put in place to complete the connection between the tower and its foundation. The suspension section is analyzed for its design, costs, and seismic elements, including shear link beams that absorb energy, preventing damage to the tower legs. The entire east span is scheduled to open in 2013.
