SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF RAIL CORRUGATION

Corrugation of rails was first observed in India over 80 years ago and the only known remedy was grinding. So far a more satisfactory solution could not be found. Corrugation is undersirable as it increases the fuel consumption (by as much as 10 percent) and maintenance expenditure. A solution for prevention of corrugation of rails by increasing the track modulus is presented.
