A study on the texture evaluation of porous pavement by averaged MPD

The texture of porous pavement is closely connected with tire/road noise generation. The mean profile depth (MPD) is generally used for evaluation of texture. However, it can be hard to find the relationship between MPD and tire/road noise. As a result of an investigation of texture changes on the surface plane of a porous pavement by the use of a laser displacement meter, it became clear that the change of the texture assumed a normal distribution in a constant range. Therefore, the averaged MPD can be applied for an evaluation index of the texture of porous pavement. In the case of an area 100mm wide and 1,000mm long on porous pavement constructed with aggregate of 13mm of maximum size, it is clear that the texture is able to be evaluated with accuracy of about 99 per cent.
