Workshop B Report: Creating and Maintaining Trusting Partnerships
A significant theme that has emerged from the Thredbo 8 Conference is the idea that better value for money from public transport services might be achieved if the service purchaser (the authority) and providers were to work together in a partnership relationship at the tactical level and work towards agreed outcome goals set at the strategic level. This discussion noted the importance of trust to a successful partnership relationship but did not explore the idea of how a “trusting partnership” might be formed and subsequently fostered. Workshop B and Thredbo 9 was given this focus. The workshop had eleven papers which are referenced throughout this overview of the workshop findings. The paper will cover the need for a trusting partnership, key requirements for purchaser-provider partnering, how to maintain performance pressure in a trusting partnership, perspectives on trusting partnerships, and policy and research recommendations.
