BREAKWATER STUDIES IN WAVE TANKS

The attempt has been made to develop a basic breakwater design of such a flexible construction that a miminum of experimental studies will be required. Considering the range of nearshore waves and grounds, stationary and floating devices must be chosen. The utilization of building block concepts seems to be advisable for single and multiple devices resulting in breakwater systems. Cost consciousness is suggested to judge effectiveness regarding attenuation of waves in conjuction with the cost of the total construction. The unconventional designs also seem to be well suited for experimental facilities if low reflection coefficients are needed.(Author)
